Petition for Local Control of Referenda

Statewide Petition to the Wisconsin State Legislature:

Dear Wisconsin Lawmaker,

The undersigned are very concerned about Senate Bill 355/Assembly Bill 481 that restricts school district referenda. The proposal limits ballot dates and implements a two-year waiting period after a failed referendum. The legislation makes it potentially very difficult for school districts to maintain programming and educational opportunities.

Public education is the cornerstone of our communities. Please don't take away the rights of our school districts to go to referendum.

A note from the petition organizers:

Whitewater YES for Education is a volunteer community/parent group in Whitewater focused on supporting our School District's referenda. We are concerned about Senate Bill 355 / Assembly Bill 481 which curbs local control and restricts a school district's ability to go to referendum. We are encouraging Whitewater voters to sign this petition. We hope others around the state who are similarly concerned will also sign.

The timeline for the proposal isn't clear, but we hope to deliver these signatures to lawmakers at a critical time during the legislative process. Because the timing is uncertain, please don't delay in signing this petition, please forward on this petition to others who want to retain local control over their own elections.

We want this petition to be as inclusive as possible. If you'd like to circulate hard copies, please feel free to print the petition and mail signatures to your elected officials.

Whitewater YES will only be delivering your name and address to legislators, not to any other groups. Whitewater YES for Education will not sell your contact information nor will we use it for our list of contacts.
