A Gala CelebrationAugust 18-20, 2017Ballet Philippines revives choreographic gems in a gala featuring Filipino stars from various international dance companies. Among the guest artists are Candice Adea (formerly of BalletMet and Hong Kong Ballet), Marcelino Libao (Hamburg Ballet), Paul Ocampo & Chien-Ying Wang (OcampoWang Dance), and Jean Marc Cordero & Rita Angela Winder (Ballett Kiel). This production marks the return of Alice Reyes, National Artist for Dance, as the company’s Artistic Director. Handpicked to showcase the excellence at the company’s core, the featured works include Agnes Locsin’s “Salome”, Bam Damian’s “Minamahal, Sinasamba”, Edna Vida’s “Vision of Fire”, Norman Walker’s “Summer’s End”, and an excerpt from the classical ballet “Raymonda”.
The Exemplars: The Best of Ballet Philippines (1970-1980)October 20-22, 2017In the first of a series of retrospectives, Ballet Philippines presents internationally acclaimed classics of the company’s repertoire from the 1970s and 1980s. This is a rare opportunity to catch these long-unseen works that established the company’s signature style and identity. Among the featured pieces are Alice Reyes’ “Itim Asu”, Denisa Reyes’ “Muybridge Frames”, Gener Caringal’s “Ang Sultan”, Norman Walker’s “Songs of a Wayfarer”, and Pauline Koner’s “Concertino”.

Don QuixoteFebruary 23-March 4, 2018Closing the season with a flourish, Ballet Philippines stages the lively classic, “Don Quixote”. Taken from an episode of Miguel de Cervantes’ tale, the ballet follows the lofty adventures of Don Quixote into Barcelona. Here he meets Kitri, an innkeeper’s daughter whom he thinks is his ladylove Dulcinea, who is in turn enamored by Basilio, the town barber of whom her father doesn’t approve. Mayhem ensues as the gentleman from La Mancha unwittingly helps the two lovers have their happy ending. With live orchestra on gala performances
Additional Presentation:Your HighnessJuly 27-28, 2017CCP Main Theater StageIn cooperation with the choreographer Eisa Jocson and Mousonturm Frankfurt, Ballet Philippines presents the World Premiere of “Your Highness” at the CCP Main Theater Stage on July 27-28, 2017. “Created with 5 young and dexterous dancers of Ballet Philippines, 'Your Highness' is a concert that prefigures their potential transition into the industry of happiness. It endlessly rehearses their becoming 'real' within the fantasy hall of 'performed happiness': of manufactured desires built upon privilege and the idealized Other. This work will be performed at several major European performing arts festivals from August to September 2017.
