Objective
To provide financial assistance to qualified and deserving students attending Virginia institutes of higher education, focusing on an engineering/technical curriculum related to civil engineering. The scholarship is open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an engineering or related technical program at a college or university in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated desire to pursue a career in civil engineering.
Funding
The scholarship is provided by the Richmond Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Funding for the scholarship comes from the proceeds of our Annual Golf Tournament, as well as from sponsorship from Richmond area civil engineering consulting firms. This year we are pleased to be selecting two (2) applicants to receive the scholarship. Each of the two recipients will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Eligibility
All students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
1. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a civil engineering program (or related technical program) at a college or university located in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
2. Applicants must have completed a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours toward an engineering related degree.
3. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Application Process
Applicants must submit the following to be considered for the scholarship:
1. ASCE Richmond Branch 2018-2019 Scholarship application form
2. Response to this year’s short essay question
3. Current college transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable)

This form must be completed and submitted by October 15, 2018 in order to be considered for the scholarship.

Evaluation and Selection
Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee comprised of members of the Richmond Branch of ASCE, including at least one current Officer. The successful recipient will be determined at the sole discretion of the selection committee. The criteria for selection include academic performance, responses to short essay questions on application form, involvement in ASCE, employment or extracurricular activities, and a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering.
