Adoption Process Summary

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue dog! Our goal is to ensure that every dog is placed in a safe, loving home. Below is an overview of our adoption process:

1. Application Review: We carefully review your application to assess your suitability as a pet owner.
2. Reference and Veterinary Checks: We contact personal references and, if applicable, your veterinarian to confirm responsible pet ownership.
3. Interview: A phone or in-person interview helps us better understand your lifestyle and expectations.
4. Home Visit: A home visit ensures your environment is safe and prepared for a new dog.
5. Approval Decision: Once approved, we match you with the best dog for your home.
6. Meet-and-Greet: You'll meet the dog to ensure compatibility.
7. Foster to Adopt: If you choose to move forward,  you'll sign a foster to adopt contract.  TDGR is still the legal owner of the dog until an adoption agreement is signed and adoption fee is paid but you will foster the dog for 2-3 weeks to ensure the dog is the perfect fit for your family/pack.  During this timeframe, you will provide all vet appointments and supplies such as food, treats and toys as you would as an owner.
8. Decision:  in 2-3 weeks you will be able to make the decision to move forward with the adoption or return the dog to the rescue.  Please understand and allow time for us to find a foster for the dog if the previous foster is no longer available.
