-------I have owned golden retrievers for the greater part of my life, my family owning a pet bitch when I was 6 years of age. She was very dark in colour, probably from working stock, with a dense wavy coat and the most beautiful temperament. She was a young boy's best friend and from such an early age I have loved the breed.
I bought my first show-bred bitch when I was 19 years old in 1967, the litter sister to the immortal Ch. Camrose Cabus Christopher.
When I married and became overseas director of the Civil Engineering Company I worked for I sadly had to re-home my dogs into pet homes where they lived happily for the rest of their years. On my return from abroad I bought a Christopher daughter out of a Styal bitch from one of his last litters and re-founded my kennel. I have owned 2 champions, 3 Res. C.C. winners and bred/owned many Junior Warrant winners, an International Ch., and Champion and C.C. winners for other people. My great companion – Show Champion Golmas Governor, who sadly died in 2011, was my dog of a lifetime with a character and temperament to die for and was influential in several bloodlines in Europe particularly through his sons – Champion Xanthos Applejack and Champion Gatchells Man of Honour – and the AI litters, including Chs. Dobro Diamond Edge and Delilah, he produced for the Dobro Kennel in Australia
I have awarded C.C.s since 1988 and have judged in most countries of Europe, and Australia, Russia, Estonia, Croatia, Finland, Sweden. I have judged the prestigious Golden Retriever Club's Championship show in 2008 In 2015 I judged The World Show in Milan and in 2018 I will be judging the dogs at Crufts.. Now that I am retired, more time can be spent pursuing my lifetime’s hobby and, even though I no longer show my 3 goldens, I am on the NWGRC Committee where I am The President, member of the Judges’ sub committee, run the show training classes and give advice on trimming, conditioning and presentation to people wanting to show their dogs and am also the Show Manager for the Championship and Open Shows, so I am still very active in the breed..
