In November 2021, the city announced that 5 bidders were under consideration to build Chicago's first casino. The Bally's Tribune proposal would construct a multi-use casino complex on the site currently occupied by the Tribune Publishing facility, located at Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street. On December 3, 2021, River North Residents Association sent a letter to 27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett, 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins, and other city officials describing significant negative impacts that a such a large-scale entertainment complex could have on traffic, public safety and quality of life for thousands of residents in the densely populated surrounding area. On March 22, 2022, the City of Chicago announced the selection of three finalists from among the original five bidders, one of which will receive the sole license to operate a Casino in our city. On April 6, after reviewing the city's Evaluation Report, RNRA published a critique, questioning several of the report's findings with respect to the Bally's Tribune assessment.
