Thank you for your interest in joining the Good Counsel Camp Staff for the summer of 2024! Our summer program will operate from June 1st - July 27th. Please read the full job description below before proceeding with your application.


Senior Counselor Job Description:

Senior Counselors are 18 years old or older and live in cabins with a fellow staff member and approximately 12 campers. They are responsible for supervising and mentoring the campers in their cabin while facilitating an environment in which campers can make friends, have fun, grow in faith and be safe. Counselors motivate campers and are expected to support and participate in all camp activities. Counselors respect the teachings of the Catholic faith and are comfortable discussing, sharing and growing in their own spiritual life. All counselors are assigned to a specific program depending upon their interests and abilities. Counselors also take part in many work projects that  keep our property and facilities clean and in working order. This is a seasonal paid position with room and board included.


The best counselors have the following traits:
  • They love working with kids.
  • They love being outdoors and aren't afraid of smelling like a campfire.
  • They feel a strong call to God and are confident in discussing their faith.
  • They aren't afraid to embarrass themselves and would happily walk around camp like a dinosaur if it will bring a smile to their camper's face.
  • They are responsible, cool under pressure, and understand that safety is first last and always.
  • They are aware of their campers physical needs and will go above and beyond to make sure their campers are comfortable during their stay at camp.
  • They keep camp clean and will do whatever it takes to prepare it for the next session.

Daily tasks include but are not limited to the following:
  • Supervise and mentor the campers in their cabin while facilitating an environment in which campers can make friends, have fun, grow in faith and be safe.
  • Ensure the safety of all campers at all times.
  • Facilitate an effective program at all activities.
  • Follow all camp policies and safety procedures.
  • Participate in all games and activities.
  • Participate in work projects that help to keep camp clean and prepared for the arrival of campers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility.  
  • Maintain proper communication with all staff.
  • Inform leadership of problem campers or issues that arise throughout the day.
  • Participate in meal service when necessary.
  • Support the teachings of the Catholic faith
  • Provide a chapel talk at least one time throughout the summer.

The following qualifications are mandatory for all counselors and must be completed prior to working this summer:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass a level II background check.
  • Must complete the safe environment training provided by the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
