This form is required to register for an entrance exam. Please carefully choose the Group’s exam you wish to take, based on grade level, descriptions below, and by reviewing the questions and solutions on the historical exams which we’ve uploaded to the Groups’ webpages.
Entrance exams for all Groups are taken in person at The Speyer Legacy School (925 9th Avenue, NYC, near Columbus Circle).
Students applying for admission must first submit the Exam Sign-Up Form, and then appear in person to take the entrance exam.
Please note that as of Spring 2017 the take-home option for the Group A exam is no longer available. Students will have 3 hours to take the Group A exam in person. Current students will be allowed to leave class early to take the exam.
Please click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page after completing the form. Upon submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation email.
Below please find guidelines to help you determine which entrance exam you should take. If you attended the program in the past, you should not take an exam which is lower than the Group you had attended. For example, if you attended Group I last year, please don't take a Group S exam.
All of the grade guidelines are for grades in 2017 - 2018 academic year.
Grades 10 and 11: Group I.
Grades 8 and 9 -- new students: Group S exam only for 8th graders. Group S strongly suggested for 9th graders.
Grade 9 -- returning students: Group I. If you don't pass the Group I test but your score is high enough, you will qualify for Group S1. Otherwise, you will need to take the S test.
Students who attended Group S1: Group I exam.
Students who attended Group S2 or S3: Group I exam for grade 10. Group I exam for students who completed at least 4 semesters (2 years) of Group S2 or S3. Optional Group I exam for AIME qualifiers. Group S exam for all other students.
Students who attended Group Y for at least 1.25 semesters: Group S exam.
Students who attended Group Y for less than 1.25 semesters: Group S exam. If you don't pass but your score is high enough, you will qualify for Group Y again. Otherwise, you will need to take the Y test.
Grades 5, 6, and 7 -- new students: Group Y exam only for 5th and 6th graders. Group Y strongly suggested for 7th graders.
Grades 4 (and 3): You can take the Group Y exam, but you would need to qualify for the more advanced Y Group to be accepted into the Y program.
Exceptions to the above-suggested eligibility are based on AMC scores. Students who scored 21+ on the AMC 8 should register for the Group S exam. Students whose scores gave them an AIME qualification should register for the Group I exam.
