The Southern California Journalism Education Association is looking for students and advisers (with 3 years or less teaching a journalism class) to honor for their accomplishments on their high school journalism staffs with the following scholarships. Your school must be a member of SCJEA to qualify.
Jolene Combs Scholarship Award, four scholarships up to $500, are awarded each year. The scholarships are for teachers or students who want to obtain summer training for their journalism class.
Jolene Combs was a champion for journalism students and teachers and her joy of teaching and mentoring is honored by helping those who need to receive additional journalism training. Scholarships may not exceed $500 and will be awarded to students entering 9th through 12th grades and teachers with fewer than three years of journalism advising experience. They must demonstrate a financial need and must write no more than 500 words to explain how this training will help them as a journalist and why they need the assistance.
Deadline is March 5, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.
Finalists will be notified by email and scheduled for a 10-15 minute interview on March 13, after the state Student Media Contests. 12- 1 p.m.
