SINFONIA is an orchestral residency that aims to create supports and new experiences for professional, student and young musician alike.
The result is ‘an orchestral experience scheme’ that enables musicians from Maynooth University Music Department who are at the start of their professional careers and young musicians from the midlands to experience playing in rehearsals and concert performances with established musicians.
Throughout the residency, as much as possible, no matter age or previous playing experience, all musicians will be treated as professionals. Music may be adjusted to our instrumentation, perhaps abridged but it is our aim not to simplify.
The result is that all participants will have the opportunity to experience making music in a demanding and challenging environment as we journey towards preparing for a concert packed with some of the orchestral repertoire greats.
The Sinfonia Team
The Sinfonia team brings together professional musicians of Maynooth University and Music Generation Offaly/ Westmeath who are all experienced performers, teachers, conductors and educators, under guidance of Andrew Synnott composer, conductor and our inspirational Artistic Director.
These musicians have experience of working with musicians of all ages and stages of their playing development.
Current students of Maynooth University Department of Music will also form part of the ensemble.
In each rehearsal session the team will combine learning new repertoire and extending instrumental and ensemble skill with great orchestral playing as they work towards a fantastic performance.
