The Safe Water for Every Child team has identified a need amongst our friends and contacts, the indigenous Karen communities along the Thai-Burma border, to continue with their English language learning during COVID lockdown and internal conflict.
Education is highly valued, and Covid-19 has closed schools. Many students will not be able to cross the border from their home villages in Myanmar, to attend migrant schools and tertiary institutions in Thailand. Some are subject to curfews after the recent coup.
We are looking for volunteers to partner with young adults that are keen to learn from fluent English speakers.
The partnership would be informal and designed to meet the needs and time availability, of the student and volunteer. Due to poor connections and poverty, Facebook Messenger via mobile phone is the preferred platform of connection and communication. Other platforms may be available depending on location.
Please leave your details on the next page if you would be interested in being matched with a student and we will be in contact shortly. It is a truly rewarding experience for both partners.
A short orientation will be provided via Zoom in the coming weeks.
