You're here because you believe the making-process of what you wear matters and you've had the calling to establish a meaningful relationship with living colors from the plants.

We are grateful to share the experience of natural dyeing with you. Through our private workshops offering, you can choose the path you feel resonate with, and we'll be guiding you through the process.

Before signing-up, please see our guidelines below:

TIME/SCHEDULE
  • Our private course is only run between Tuesday and Friday. We don't run private course on the weekends and Mondays.
  • Course starts at 10am and ends at 1pm each day.
  • We don't offer single day class in our private workshop.
LOCATION
The venue is in our studio in Kedewatan, Ubud. (Details of address and complete itinerary will be given to you after course confirmation.)

PARTICIPATION
  • Each session is open for maximum 2 persons.
  • We have prepared materials (fabrics/papers/yarns/plants, etc.) and equipment needed for the workshop, therefore you don't need to bring your own.
  • The colors and prints being made during the workshop depend on the plants we gather, and they are based on the season and/or availability.
  • Please understand that the workshop has been designed as a learning experience, not a dye service session. We had few participants who brought plenty of fabrics of their own (for their brand's collection) and insisted to dye them during the workshop without consulting beforehand, even though we have clearly stated this. If you'd like to inquire dye service, you can contact us via email at info@cintabumiartisans.com.

PRICE
  • Price is per person, and it includes materials, equipment, tools, e-guide/handbook of your course, with refreshment and drink available. Lunch is not included.
  • The payment for the course should be settled in advance, otherwise we won't secure your booking.
  • We understand sometimes things happen or change out of our expectation, and our cancellation policy is made fair to accommodate both of us:
    - Cancellation more than 2 weeks prior to course date: 100% refund.
    - Cancellation less than 2 weeks prior to course date: 50% refund.
  • If you can't attend the workshop but not sure about cancelling it, you have the option to keep the payment as deposit for reschedule on later available dates.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Mordant Painting and Mark-Making with Natural Dyes is a surface design method where mordants are processed into painting/printing paste and they're applied onto fabric with painting and mark-making techniques. The tools being used for it are varied, from classic brushes to found objects like stones, remnant of tiles, or even twigs. Once the mordant paints are set, the fabric is dyed in an immersion bath. This is the alchemy process that reveals the colors and patterns/prints being made with the paste. In our practice, we also love calling it "the invisible paint".

In the workshop, you will learn the foundations of Mordant Painting, Immersion Dyeing, create projects with different type of fabrics and tools, and envision your creative process for further.

After the workshop, you will:
  • Understand the key steps of Mordant Painting, from preparation until finishing process.
  • Be more familiar with dye plants and how to identify them.
  • Be resourceful in working with materials and tools around you.
  • Have the ability to create your own Mordant Painted work.
