Router naming conventions
I am working on a project at the University of Wisconsin that is looking into inferring internet path characteristics from the dns names of routers.
What features do you use when naming a router interface?
Ie. setting PTR for DNS reverse lookup for routers.
Geographic info (CLLI, Airport code)
Media type (xe, gi, ae, ...)
OS label for interface (ge-0-0-1)
Functional router name (cr1, ...)
vlan id
Other:
Please describe the naming convention that you use for your routers/interfaces in detail, giving individual fields and example values for fields if applicable. If you have a system that uses a "base name" for the router and "interface names" for attached interfaces please note this
Ordering and examples of features above including "other".

If your network uses a derived string, please describe the variables and concatenation logic involved
Your answer
If no formal pattern or config-based PTR generation logic is used, what system or approach is used?
Your answer
