CDPHE's Overdose Prevention Unit is pleased to announce the availability of funding to support Colorado coroners and medical examiner in conducting toxicology testing for deaths suspected to involve overdose due to opioids and/or stimulants. This funding is available through the Overdose Data to Action - States (OD2A-S) grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
All Colorado coroner and medical examiner's offices are eligible to apply for this funding. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. This grant is non-competitive. Funding is disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis and capped at $45,000 per entity per grant year (Sept. 1-August 31, cap amount subject to change based on participation).
This funding is to be used for toxicology testing for deaths where overdose due to opioids and/or stimulants is suspected to be the cause of death or to have contributed to the death. This funding may be used to test for opioids, stimulants, and commonly co-occurring substances.
