Workshop with Nicola Gunn
Monday, February 3, 6-8:30
Smith Crew House
Join Australian performance artist Nicola Gunn for a workshop exploring the relationship between talking, thinking, and doing in performance.
In line with Gunn's current research – choreography as a listening-centered practice, the dramaturgy of translation and the materiality of potential--participants will use conversation to generate performance material and language to shape choreography. Ultimately, they will investigate how they might, through embodiment, "see the thinking," as Gunn says.
Open to Five College Theater and Dance senior year majors and MFA students. Capacity limited to 20, first come first served. Please note that the session will be recorded for the artist's own use.
Incorporating text, choreography, video and spatial interventions, Nicola Gunn’s work is often generated from a combination of significant reference points - personal anecdote, novels, stand-up comedy, philosophy, visual art - to create a kind of autofiction that is mobilized in strange ways. Her work has been presented in New York, Berlin, Oslo, Paris, London, Vienna, Lisbon, Seattle among others and at festivals including Biennale di Venezia, Tanz im August, Jacob’s Pillow, Melbourne Festival and Fierce.
