The past year has been very productive for the Centre for Global Equality, and we have embarked on a number of exciting new initiatives that enrich our offering to members. These include co-founding Cambridge Global Challenges Initiative, the University of Cambridge’s Strategic Research Initiative for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the establishment of an innovation programme including the CGE Cultivator. Our student society has just run the 11th Cambridge International Development Conference, and hosts regular events with Missing Maps.
In order to demonstrate effectively the value that our member network offers, and to facilitate effective networking between CGE members, researchers and innovators, we have decided to trial a new membership mechanism. For 2018, as an experiment, instead of soliciting membership fees, we are asking members to renew with information. The renewal form asks where you are working, the types of programmes you are running, and your current areas of focus. The information we ask for is to enable us make the following sorts of statements, and be able to back them up with some evidence. “CGE has *** member organisations that work in *** low and middle income countries. In 2017, CGE member organisations ran *** projects with *** beneficiaries. While projects contribute across most sectors, the network has particular strength in *Health, *Education, *Water and *Technological Innovation, in *Uganda, *Kenya, *Ethiopia and *Bangladesh”
We are a Membership Organisation as per the Centre for Global Equality Memorandum and Articles of Association.
As a CGE Member Organisation you will
have the responsibility of being the subscribers to the Memorandum of the Charity who
a) apply to the Charity in the form required by the Directors and b) are approved by the Directors.
Thus, all applications are audited by the Board of Trustees. The Board may only refuse an application for membership if, acting reasonably and properly, they consider it to be in the best interests of the Charity to refuse the application. Board meetings are held quarterly, at which you application will be submitted, audited and approved.
To become a member of CGE, you must have eligible reasons for joining the network (eg. you have or are currently partnering with CGE on a project).
We recommend applying as an Individual Member unless you are invited to become a CGE member.
