Volunteer opportunities range from volunteering at Hilltop Books (our volunteer-run bookstore that supports the Chestnut Hill Library) to supporting community events and programs coordinated by Hilltop Books and/or the Chestnut Hill Library.

Which volunteer opportunities are you interested in? *

Volunteering at Hilltop Books on a regular basis: In addition to a passion for reading, experience using a Point of Sale/Inventory system is a huge plus! You'll be asked to add books to inventory, sell books, welcome customers, and help keep the store organized. Warmth and attention to detail are appreciated!

Being a mini-library librarian: Periodically bringing excess books from Hilltop to mini-libraries.

Helping during workdays such as our year-end inventory count or other big efforts. This may involve some lifting/moving boxes.

Sorting book donations: unboxing incoming donations, helping sort books by genre, alphabetizing, and packing unwanted books. Involves carrying boxes of books.

Gardening: The Chestnut Hill Library has an beautiful, educational garden. Help us maintain it at the direction of our garden committee.

Virtual/remote help: We'll sometimes need community support to coordinate and promote events such as speaker series, book clubs etc.

Event staff: Day of support at educational/community events (eg. Earth Day program), fundraising events etc.

Volunteering at the Chestnut Hill Library: Depending on interest this could range from program support (eg. computer literacy) to organizational tasks.

Volunteering with youth: This could mean storytime, game nights, or mentorship programs at the library. It requires completing clearances (free) to volunteer with youth.
