RICE Community Voices
For nearly a decade, RICE has been telling human-interest stories in Singapore rooted in lived experience, shaped by perspectives and realities you don’t often see reflected.

In 2026, we’re opening up our platform to amplify everyday voices as part of a broader shift towards more participatory, community-driven storytelling.

We’re looking for clarity, specificity, lived experience, and authentic voices. Promising pitches will be developed in close collaboration with our editorial team for publication on RICE. All drafts will be curated and edited to the same standards that define our work.

Name/Byline *
Proposed working headline *
Go with specific angles and avoid broad coverage. Never be too wordy—keep it catchy and concise.

This is the key component that decides if a reader would want to click through or share it with others on social media.

For example: “Brothels in Singapore” (BAD) vs “Inside Singapore’s Oldest Brothel” (GOOD) vs “Inside Singapore’s Oldest Brothel Where Teens Go to Lose Their Virginity” (BEST)
Pitch synopsis *
Capture the essence of the story in two paragraphs. Be specific, avoid broad strokes.

Set the context, current conflict and compelling insights you aim to communicate through this piece. The premise, angle, and approach here needs to be solid enough to establish why RICE should publish this.
Why does this story matter now? And why should it be told by you?
*

What’s the Singapore-specific tension or question at the heart of this story?

*
What is the resonance factor? *
  • Why would someone want to share this story with others?
  • How is this story giving language to something people often think or feel, but rarely articulate?

  • What part of your lived experience does this story come from?
  • What will readers learn by the end of your story?
What is this story's unique selling point? *
  • How is this story different from how other publications would do it?

In every RICE Community Voices story, we're trying to answer this question: What can a better life look like in Singapore?

Does this story address this question? How so?
*

Is there anything you're unsure about, struggling with, or hoping an editor can help you shape?
