Bass Ensemble is a member organization and does not cast singers on a project by project basis. In order to participate in the performance projects of the ensemble, choristers must be in good standing, meeting all the requirements of ensemble enrollment.
Given the nature of the ensemble's professional engagements, as well as the weight given to our self-produced projects, choristers must be able to prioritize participation in the ensemble over other extracurricular activities.
Families are encouraged to request an exception if they anticipate exceeding their absence allowance for good cause. In these cases, families will be asked to provide a complete picture of the scope of absences, including the range of dates and anything notable about the conflict or circumstances. BYC staff will review any such request to see if it is possible to accommodate the additional absences without negatively impacting the ensemble in terms of performance or student morale.
Should a request be denied and a chorister make the choice to prioritize other activities that result in them exceeding the absence allowance, they are asked to withdraw for the remainder of the term with the possibility of re-enrolling in subsequent years.
Leave of Absence Request Example: I am requesting a leave of absence for my school play that will run for three weeks. I would be missing rehearsals from Tuesday, March 25th - Friday, April 11th for a total of 9 missed rehearsals. My first rehearsal back would be Tuesday, April 15th. I am required to be in one school production a year for a grade, and this production fulfills this requirement.
BYC-Produced Event Exemption Example: My brother's college graduation is the same day as Spring Sings, and we will be traveling to attend. I am requesting an exemption for the concerts on May, 17th.
