Female Journalists harassed online: A threat against media freedom
The increasing number of women journalists facing gender-based harassment online is an alarming signal not just for the Media workers community but also for the public and the quality of information they can access. Online violence, in all its forms, has a huge impact on the journalists’ well-being, their mental health, their work and Media Freedom at large.

An overview of the facts, the figures and the causes of online violence against women journalists, and the latest initiatives to tackle the problem in ways that respond to its urgency and its complexity, will be the topic of a webinar organized by the International Training Center for the Safety of Journalists, operating in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Pamela Morinière, Head of Communications and campaigns at the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and a gender expert, Elodie Vialle, Digital Safety Advisor and Fellow at BKC Harvard, and Sofia Papadopoulou, Editor in chief at the Greek Public News Agency ANA-MPA (Northern Greece Directorate) will discuss the matter and propose measures and best practices that could be used to introduce special training courses in the Center’s agenda. The online discussion will be moderated by Yannis Kotsifos, journalist, Director of the Journalists Union of Macedonia and Thrace (Thessaloniki, Greece).
