Friday, October 12 – 12:00 pm: General Opening Session with Buffet Luncheon and Keynote Speaker, Jocelyn ChadwickJoin us for our conference kick-off session which includes a sandwich and salad buffet and empowering words from our National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) President-Elect. Friday, October 12 – 6:00 pm: Dinner with a Board Member.*Join us at local restaurants for dinner with a member of the VATE board. Signup sheets will be available at check in. This is an opportunity to speak directly to a board member with concerns, questions, ideas, and innovations. This is your organization and we want to hear from you! *space is limited; if necessary, priority will be given based on registration payment date
Saturday, October 13 – 9:00 am: Kylene Beers & Bob ProbstJoin us after breakfast for an informative session with bestselling authors and collaborators, Kylene Beers and Bob Probst. They are the co-authors of Notice and Note and (separately and together) many other titles aimed at making classroom teachers’ lives easier, more meaningful, and creative. A book signing will follow.
Saturday, October 13 – 12:30 pm: Buffet Luncheon and awards and recognitions.Join us for a hot lunch and a program, featuring this year’s award winners and special recognitions for VATE members. * (cost included in registration)
Saturday, October 13 – 7:30 pm: Books, Wine and Chocolate Decompress and enjoy time with your fellow Virginia English teachers. Come see how tasty fine wine, fine chocolate, and fine books can be. Seriously, this event is tailored for English teachers! (Cost $20.00)
Sunday, October 14 – 9:00 am: Panel: The Role of English in a Climate of School InsecurityHow does our field, our discipline, the humanities in general, function in US schools at this moment in our history? Participate in a moderated panel after enjoying a breakfast buffet with fellow English teachers and educators.
