LETTER TEXT: Dear President/Senator/Representative,
As citizens from across the country, we are concerned about the health impacts of air pollution. Current levels of air pollution in the U.S. pose widespread threats to health. These are serious, life threatening health consequences, including premature death, lung cancer, asthma attacks, heart attacks and strokes. The Clean Air Act guarantees all Americans, especially the most vulnerable, air that is safe and healthy to breathe. Our nation has made tremendous progress thanks to this law, but, we still have to fulfill this commitment. We ask you to support the full implementation and enforcement of the Clean Air Act.
Forty years ago, Congressional leaders from both political parties wrote and passed the Clean Air Act. This law directed the Environmental Protection Agency to protect public health and the environment. Since then, this important public health legislation has saved lives and improved the quality of life for millions of Americans. But the job is not finished. Communities across the nation still suffer from poor air quality. Low income families face the impacts of toxic air pollution every day. And far too many of our nation’s children, elderly, and people with asthma, heart disease and other health challenges must live under added threats to their health from breathing polluted air and facing the impacts of climate change.
Please fulfill the promise of clean, healthy air for all Americans to breathe. Everyone deserves to breathe clean air. We urge you to support full implementation of the Clean Air Act and resist any efforts to weaken, delay or block progress toward a healthier future for all Americans.
