Federal Funds Feedback Survey
As a result of the impacts of the coronavirus, schools across the country received federal funding to address the learning loss of students through the implementation of evidence-based interventions that respond to students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. The awarded dollar amount of the grant for Newcomb Central School District was $164, 224. With the federal grant monies, the district was able to purchase a number of diagnostic testing instruments to assess students present levels of performance as well as identify specific learning gaps. Based on the data obtained from those diagnostics, the district offered After School Academic Support, tutoring and After School Regents Preparation to address learning loss and provide individualized academic support to students. The district furthermore addressed the social-emotional needs of students as a result of the pandemic through increased programming from the Prevention Team as well as a number of After School Experiences that aligned with the New York State Social-Emotional Learning Benchmarks.

The district is interested in your feedback on the above comprehensive programming that was offered to our students and your input on an upcoming amendment that will exhaust the remaining funds. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. This survey will remain open for the next thirty days.

Staff and student survey results yielded a need for a Student Learning Lab moving forward which would provide a designated space to implement a number of academic and social-emotional supports for students. The Student Learning Lab would be centrally located within the school building, adjacent to the high school library and would be accessible to all students and faculty members in grades Pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Student Learning Lab would be inclusive of flexible seating and access to academic materials, technologies and educational materials and supplies.

The following is a potential list of uses for the Student Learning Lab.

-Provide private space for the Prevention Team Providers to meet with students individually or in small groups to address social emotional learning.

-Provide space for NCS’ School Counselor to meet collaboratively with students in small groups to address social emotional learning.

-Provide a separate learning space to support peer-peer mentoring.

-Provide a collaborative space for small group meetings, study groups or organized group work for students.

-Provide a private, collaborative space for NCS’ Director of Curriculum and Instruction to meet with faculty and staff members for classroom coaching purposes.

-Provide space for Academic Intervention Services, Special Education Services or other such related services.

-Provide a separate location for collaborations with parents and guardians.

Please use the space below to provide your input and suggestions for a Student Learning Lab.
