Please fill out the form below to officially sign on in support of Climate Pollution Limits (HB 2311/SB 6272). Sign on letter text below. This letter and signatures will be submitted to Washington State Legislators during the 2020 legislative session.
As local leaders who care deeply about the addressing the climate crisis and providing a livable and just Washington for future generations, we support the adoption of updated, science based greenhouse emission limits and passage of HB 2311/SB 6272.
Across Washington state, communities are facing the impacts of climate pollution and rising temperatures, including decreasing snowpack, rising sea level, increasing wildfire risk, and ocean acidification. Climate change in Washington threatens the health of our residents, the productivity of our economy, and the stability of our ecosystem. This 2020 legislative session, we need meaningful action on the climate crisis.
In 2019, the legislature acted to pass historic climate and environmental legislation, including 100% Clean Energy, which sets on the track to a cleaner, lower emissions future. Now, we need the legislature to continue to build on last year’s success by establishing more rigorous greenhouse gas emission limits, recognizing the role that our natural and working lands play in climate recovery through sequestration, and creating a more robust inventory process that helps all of us do our part to reduce emissions.
We the undersigned local elected officials urge you to support HB 2311/SB 6272 (Climate Pollution Limits) and:
• Set credible and ambitious climate pollution reduction limits;
• Provide clear direction that the state must meet these limits;
• Incorporate sequestration into our overall climate policy;
• Update our emissions inventory to provide more timely and actionable information; and
• Create the expectation that meeting our climate emission reduction limits must be done in an equitable way that invests in Washington’s workers and Washington’s communities.
As local leaders we know that effective action on climate change must take place at the federal, state and local level. We support this policy at the state level and are committed to working with you to address the climate crisis and it’s impacts in our communities and our state.
