Introduction
The OHDSI Maternal
Health Data Science Fellowship is a program designed to train clinical investigators for improved maternal and neonatal care. This fellowship offers three key components: Career Development, Practice, and Networking.
Our program focuses on training clinical
investigators in observational research methods to enable them to conduct
reproducible research and generate real-world evidence. We aim to guide students
in the production of multi-institutional network studies and help them win
future grants.
Curriculum
Participants will gain a deep understanding of the challenges posed by traditional healthcare data sources and the importance of standardized data models, particularly the OMOP CDM, in enhancing the value of observational health data for large-scale analytics.
The curriculum includes training on conducting multi-institutional research across the OHDSI Data network, which spans 450 sites worldwide, comprising over 960 million unique patients. We equip clinical investigators with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the OMOP common data model (CDM) for network studies.
Students will delve into topics such as use case selection, study design, IRB considerations, protocol development, and phenotyping. The program emphasizes the importance of reproducible and interoperable observational studies, aligning with emerging industry standards in healthcare research. Participants will also become proficient in tools like Athena and Atlas for cohort discovery.
Key discussion topics include data quality, data characterization, major clinical terminologies, research cohort definitions, and framing effective observational research questions.
The NIH Improve Maternal Health OHDSI Data Network
Candidates will be able to leverage the NIH Maternal Health OHDSI Data Partner Network, comprised of 7 US-based Academic Medical Centers. Network studies led by candidates will be based on this network and be open to any data partners in the OHDSI Evidence Network
How to Apply
This program is designed for early-stage researchers in academic medicine who are focusing their career on creating evidence from real world data in Maternal Health. Candidates will be given preference if their organization participates in the OHDSI data network and/or the NIH Improve initiative.
To apply, please fill out and submit this form. We will be in touch shortly after the application deadline.
