Adult Volunteers must attend a volunteer training session within the first 30 days and teen volunteers must attend the training prior to volunteering.
Teen Volunteers must commit to a 2 hour shift. This is to assure that they receive proper training.
Volunteers must sign in/out at the Volunteer Station so that the WCSC may record their hours. Plus wear a name tag during your shift.
Volunteers should follow directions from all contractors. Please take any issues, concerns, or problems to the WCSC Thrift Shop management, including the Thrift Shop Chair/s, Philanthropic President, or President of WCSC.
Volunteers are expected to act with integrity, be respectful, professional, courteous, and responsive to others with whom they interact. Volunteers are expected to provide great customer service. Please have a friendly, cheerful disposition when dealing with customers, staff, and other volunteers.
While volunteering at the WCSC Thrift Shop, volunteers must refrain from using profanity, discussing any issues that may be controversial in subject to others (i.e. politics, race, religion, etc.) complaining or disgracing the United States Military or its leaders.
Problems that arise with any volunteer may result in that individual being asked to leave and not return to assist at the Thrift Shop. If, after being relieved of volunteer duties, problems persist with said volunteer, that volunteer will be asked to no longer shop or consign at the WCSC Thrift Shop.
Each volunteer must straighten their area before signing out for the day. Please do not leave a mess for another volunteer to clean up.
Volunteers are permitted one soft drink or coffee and snack during a volunteer shift. Unlimited water is also provided.
Volunteers are not permitted to price items they wish to purchase. Only management can price donation items.
Volunteers are allowed to purchase items from the sales floor. If two or more volunteers are interested in purchasing the same item, and cannot solve the situation on their own, then the issue will be decided at the discretion of management.
Taking home unpurchased items for any reason (i.e. to remove a stain, see if it works, etc.) is not permitted unless approved by management.
All donations must be in "almost new" condition before being placed on the sales floor. Items should be double checked before being placed on the shelf to make sure there are no rips, stains, missing or broken parts, chips, scratches, etc.
The sales floor is a great place to interact with customers! All areas need daily straightening, organizing, cleaning, removing and/or re-pricing of expired and sub-standard items, assisting customers, stocking shelves, and cashier assistance.
All personal bags must be left at the front counter/container. All bags are subject to search by WCSC Management
All volunteers must enter and exit the store via the front sliding doors. All other doors are used on an emergency basis. If found going in and out any other doors, volunteers will be asked to leave.
Volunteers will receive $2 in Thrift Shop Bucks for every hour volunteered. Thrift Store Bucks are paid out monthly. Thrift Shop Bucks may be used on any item in the store excluding consignment and white tag items.
Every 50 hours volunteered a 50% off coupon will be issued towards a White Tag item. The hour calculation will reset on June 1st every year. *Must be a cash purchase, up to $50 off.
Volunteers earn a $40 Red thrift Shop Bucks for every 200 hours volunteered. The hour calculation resets annually on June 1st.
Volunteers can utilize the designated area behind the register area to temporarily hold items. All items must be paid for by the end of the day or they will be returned to the sales floor. Please hand all items to the sales associate to place in bins, do not walk behind the cash register area.
Consignment items may not be put aside for later purchase. Volunteers must purchase items immediately otherwise you deprive the consigner of a potential sale should you change your mind or forget to purchase and not place it on the sale floor.
Volunteers are held to the same rules in regards to consignments as a customer, including EboG, BoG members.
Any items posted online may not be set aside by volunteers before we open for business.
At opening, the item may be purchased at FULL PRICE after the volunteer has waited outside with the other potential buyers.
If the item is left on the floor until the volunteer has worked their 2 hour shift the item may be purchased. The item cannot be moved or made more difficult for others to find.
All purchases must be viewed and rung up by the TS Manager at the end of the volunteers shift. Manager has the discretion to change the price of the item – volunteers are not allowed to price other volunteer purchases.
The TS management has the final decision on volunteer incentives not covered in this document.
