The Paid Leave Organizer program aims to develop participants as organizers, focused on the issue of access to paid leave in NJ and beyond. The new 2024 Paid Leave Organizer cohort will take part in a 9-month training and collaborative learning experience.
Twelve Paid Leave Organizers will be selected after short interviews to participate in monthly Organizing Training sessions focused on organizing, and caregiving & paid leave policies, and in monthly NJ Voices for Paid Leave discussion forums. While the majority of the program will be conducted virtually, some in person gathering is planned. Stipends and reimbursement for childcare & travel are provided.
Organizers will also have the opportunity to get involved in policy advocacy at the NJ by being invited to participate in activities such as getting out the vote, talking to voters, writing letters to the editors, speaking with press, lobbying at the state house, meeting with legislators, testifying at legislative sessions, and more. While these activities are optional, they offer organizers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and see firsthand how to make policy change happen.
New Jerseyans from communities which are more likely to face barriers to worker protections and access to paid leave (lower-income workers, women, LGBTQ+, workers of color, and immigrants) are encouraged to apply!
Deadline to submit an application is Friday, January 26th, 2024. Short 30 min interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis once an application is received, so apply early!
