Baker Elementary Home & School Slate '21-'22
In an effort to ensure that more Baker parents are aware of the chair positions within Home and School, we would like for anyone interested in a chair position to express that through this form. Please check all positions that you have interest in holding. If you are currently a chair and are interested in keeping your position for next year, please fill this out. (Room parent interest and selection occurs in September through a different form.)

Co Chair: High commitment. 2 year commitment. Year 1 - Serve as co-chair who manages Baker Budget, collects event reports from chairs, assists chair with events, attends all Baker H&S meetings, as well as any H&S Chairs meetings and H&S Trustees meetings. Year 2 - Serve as the chair that oversees all H&S activity at Baker. Same meeting schedule applies, as well as assisting and coordinating with all chairs and principal on all events. Runs and schedules all cultural enrichment events with principal. Must have a flexible schedule to be present at events when necessary.
Secretary: 1 year/Monthly. Attend all Baker H&S monthly meetings and take detailed notes. Create and submit meeting minutes to Baker Chair to be posted online. Approve meeting minutes at each H&S meeting.
Back to School Night Decorations & Teacher Dinner: 1 year/1 night event in Sept. Coordinate donated decorations with district chair. Coordinate with principal to order and deliver teacher dinner. Must be present to deliver order.
Bingo Night: 1 year/1 night in Dec. Coordinate with principal and Baker chair teacher volunteers to run event. Work with custodial staff for setup. Order prizes. Must be present to oversee the event.
Book Fair Chair (Needs 2): High Commitment. 1.5 wks in Oct and 1.5 wks in Mar/April. Additional meetings with Scholastic, district chair, principal, librarian and book fair team. Organizes advertising, setup, teacher preview, running, and breakdown of 2 fairs and a teacher preview. Organizes and executes decoration of hallways and library according to the theme of the Scholastic Book Fair. Typically split between the business side and decorations side of the fair. Coordinates with Family Fun Night Chair (Fall) and principal for Literacy Night (Spring). Trains co-chairs for the next year. Must be present during school hours as well as one morning event and one evening event each week of of the fair.
Book Fair Co-Chair (Apprentice): High Commitment. 2 year committment. 1.5 wks in Oct and 1.5 wks in Mar/April. Learns all aspects of Book Fair Chair and assists as needed in first year. Takes over as Chairs in second year. See description for Book Fair Chairs. Must be present during school hours as well as one morning event and one evening event each week of of the fair.
Book Fair Family Fun Night: 1 year/1 night in Oct. Coordinates, organizes, books, and oversees family fun night by working with Book Fair Chairs, Baker Chair and principal. Event requires obtaining volunteers. Event takes place in the gym and includes activities such as DJ, crafts, photo booths, face painting, bounce houses, etc.
Boosterthon: 1 year/Intermittent/2 week event. Only exists as a position every other year. Works with district chair, Baker Chair, and principal to organize event. Requires some time at the school, must be present for the day of the Fun Run event, but mainly coordination.
Community Service: 1 year/Multiple times through the year. Coordinates Turkey Drive, Mitten Tree, Ronald McDonald, and other charitable community service activities. Works with Baker Chair and principal.
Cookie Dough Fundraiser: 1 year/Intermittent. Works with district chair to distribute order forms if needed as well as distribute orders when they come in.
3rd Grade Dance: 1 year/Intermittent and 1 day event. Coordinates with district chair to plan event at the UES. Oversees event with other school chairs and district chair.
Membership: 1 year/Intermittent. High Fall involvement, intermittent through the rest of the year. Coordinates with district membership chairs for obtaining any paper membership forms and the distribution of calendars to the proper classrooms for students to bring home.
Field Day - Kindergarten: 1 year/1 day event in early June. Coordinates with principal for volunteers and supplies needed to run field day. Must be present for event.
Field Day - Grades 1-3: 1 year/1 day event in early June. Coordinates with principal for volunteers and supplies needed to run field day. Must be present for event.
Fingerprinting: 1 year/1 day event in March. Coordinates with district chair to obtain parent volunteers to help bring students to and from the classrooms and clean up their hands after fingerprinting. Must be present for event.
First Day Folders: 1 year/1 day event in Aug. Coordinate with Baker Chair and front office the stuffing of first day folders and any volunteers needed to help. Completed the week before school starts. Must be present at event.
Gift Wrap: 1 year/Intermittent. Works with district chair to distribute order forms if needed as well as distribute orders when they come in.
Kindergarten Screening (Needs 2): 1 year/3 day event in May. Coordinates with principal and Baker chair to obtain volunteers to welcome incoming Kindergartners to the school. Provide simple tour of the school to familiarize them with the school before their screening.
Media: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with school librarian training program and volunteer signup. Helpful if you have been a media volunteer before taking the position.
Moorestown/Baker Apparel Sales: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinate with district chair for apparel sales during Kindergarten Orientation and Back to School Night. Also distributes any apparel sales not directly shipped to students' homes.
Nominations/Slate: 1 year/Intermittent. Feb-June. Coordinates with Baker Chair and Co-Chair to obtain interest in chair positions for the next year, confirm positions and have the slated positions voted upon in H&S Meetings.
Project Democracy: 1 year/1 day event in Nov. Coordinates with principal for Nov event where students learn about democracy and vote like their parents on a fun school item. Setup and break down voting booths. Setup voting system with principal. Coordinate volunteers to assist students. Must be present at the event.
Picture Day: 1 year/2 different dates in Sept and Nov. Coordinates with principal for picture day schedule and volunteers to assist students with preparation for pictures. Also coordinates with principal for picture day makeups. The first date is a full day. The second date is typically one morning. Must be present at both events.
Promotions/Box Tops: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with the district chair to obtain any physical box tops and look for ways to promote box top events for parent participation with the app.
Recess Runners: 1 year/Intermittent in Fall and Spring. Coordinates with principal for recess runners program. Students run laps to reach milestones that provide prizes. Requires obtaining volunteers during lunch recess times, managing supplies necessary, and submitting all tally sheets for review.
Science Day (Needs 2): 1 year/1 day event in Jan/Feb. Coordinates with principal and Baker chair where community STEAM parents make presentations to students. Requires extensive planning, obtaining presenters and volunteers to assist, along with coordinating luncheon for presenters.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon (Fall): 1 year/1 day event in Aug plus planning. Coordinates with principal and Baker Chair to provide lunch for teachers and staff returning to school. This occurs the week before school starts. Requires ordering, pick up, setup and breakdown of luncheon. Must be present for event.
Staff Appreciation December: 1 year/ 1 day event in Dec plus planning. Coordinates with principal and Baker Chair to provide cookie exchange, luncheon or gift cards for the staff. Requires volunteers to create, order, pickup setup and breakdown of whatever event is chosen. Must be present for event.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon (Spring): 1 year/1 day event in May plus planning. Coordinates with principal and Baker Chair to provide lunch for teachers and staff. This occurs during teacher appreciation week in May. Requires ordering, pick up, setup and breakdown of luncheon. Must be present for event.
Volunteer Coordinator: 1 year/Beginning of the school year coordination. Obtains all volunteer sheets and organizes into spreadsheets to distribute to the chairs that need volunteers.
Grade Chair - Kindergarten: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with Baker Chair throughout the year to communicate information to room parents in the grade. Requires coordination with kindergarten teachers for Polar Express, Gingerbread Houses, Corduroy Teddy Bear creation, and Teddy Bear Picnic.
Grade Chair - 1st Grade: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with Baker Chair throughout the year to communicate information to room parents in the grade.
Grade Chair - 2nd Grade: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with Baker Chair throughout the year to communicate information to room parents in the grade.
Grade Chair - 3rd Grade: 1 year/Intermittent. Coordinates with Baker Chair throughout the year to communicate information to room parents in the grade. Works with principal and chair for any 3rd grade events where H&S assistance is needed.
