Call for Applications: GYBN Regional Youth Capacity Building Workshops 2017
To enable young leaders to actively contribute to achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (https://www.cbd.int/sp/targets/) within their home regions, the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN, www.gybn.org) is hosting a series of capacity-building workshops around the world in 2018.

These week-long regional workshops will bring together 10-15 young leaders in each region to:
- Learn about the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD, www.cbd.int), the CBD's Strategic Plan 2010-2021 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets
- Catalyze concrete actions to bring these legally-binding international decisions down to the local, national, and regional level

Participants will receive training in international biodiversity conservation policy, media campaign skills and project management to create or enhance existing projects that directly contribute to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

DATES AND VENUES OF WORKSHOPS
So far funding has been secured for three workshops in the Global South. Additional workshops will be held in Europe and North-America and announced as soon as funding has been confirmed.

* For these workshops, travel, accommodation, and limited food expenses will be funded for successful applicants who are based in the region in which the workshop is held. Flights will only be funded for travel within the same region.

ABOUT GYBN
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is an international network of 115 youth organizations, representing more than 342.500 youth from 97 countries whose common goal is to prevent the loss of biodiversity. GYBN aims to represent the voice of global youth in the negotiations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), raise awareness among young people of the values of biodiversity, and connects individuals and youth organizations in order to build a global coalition to halt the loss of biodiversity.
As the official coordination platform for youth participation in the negotiations under the CBD, GYBN is committed to bringing the opinions and positions of young people into the political process; empowering young people to take action. Recognized and supported by the CBD Secretariat, GYBN seeks to inspire global youth and future leaders to work for the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity for a healthy environment and society.
GYBN was created as the result of an international initiative by young people who participated in CBD COP10 in 2010, and was officially established in 2012. The network is coordinated by an international steering committee and is entirely run by young people for young people.
