Registration Priority & Team Limits
Registration is based on submitting a registration form on a first come, first served basis. Each school is limited to two teams, with two competitors per team. Students not part of their school's Moot Court program are eligible to compete as an unaffiliated team. There is no limit to the number of unaffiliated teams a school may have, except that the total competition is limited to 36 teams and preference will be given to schools that have not yet filled their 2-team allotment.
Payment
The standard registration fee for the competition is $100, payable by check to "UC Regents" at the address below, or by Venmo at the Venmo account below. Please write "Moot Court Cybersecurity" in the memo line of the check or in the description of the Venmo payment. Judge Designation Requirement
All teams are required to designate one judge each, preferably an attorney or other legal professional. If your school is unable to provide a judge, please contact Evan Thomas at cybercrimes@lawnet.ucla.edu. Such team-designated judges are intended to serve as a backup to ensure that an adequate number of judges are available. In all likelihood, not all team-designated judges will ultimately be asked to judge. The UCLA Moot Court Honors Program Board will email each team-designated judge by Sunday, February 5, 2023 to inform them as to whether they will be selected to judge in the 2023 UCLA Law Cybersecurity Moot Court Competition. To ensure fairness, any team-designated judges selected for the competition will not be assigned to judge their own team or any team competing against their own in other rounds.
Terms and ConditionsAll entrants into the UCLA Cybersecurity Moot Court Competition agree to be bound by the Official Rules of the Competition. Upon receipt of this Registration Form and Entry Fee the UCLA Moot Court Honors Program Board will assign your team an Official Competition Number and will assign each team member an Advocate Number via email. Each team may choose to argue for Petitioner or Respondent for brief writing. In oral argument, each team will argue both the Petitioner and Respondent position once each. The Competition Problem will be released to all registered teams via email by the first week of January 2023.
No registration will be accepted after the Registration Deadline on December 30, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. PT except upon written approval of the VP of Cybersecurity. For the procedures to follow after the Competition Problem has been released, please refer to both the Official Rules and the competition page located at the following website: https://law.ucla.edu/life-ucla-law/student-organizations/moot-court-honors-program.
