Warm Chain : Identify Gaps and Actors
Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding requires the involvement of different actors at many levels, in order to enable mothers to have a satisfying and effective breastfeeding experience. The Warm Chain places the mother-infant dyad at its core, and strives to coordinate efforts between “links” or different actors and spaces (healthcare and community) to support a mother. Many links in the warm chain are already part of existing initiatives, such as mother-friendly care, the Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), essential newborn care, and primary care. With consistent messages and a strong referral system throughout the chain, mother and child will benefit from ongoing support and more skilled help during her breastfeeding experience .
