CSCW Workshop on Mentoring Undergraduate Research
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to a special workshop on "Mentoring Undergraduate Research" to be held on Monday, March 16, 10:30AM - 1:00PM at CSCW '15 in Vancouver B.C. This workshop is free and includes lunch. The workshop is sponsored by the Computing Research Association's Education Committee with generous funding from the National Science Foundation. The workshop will be run by Professors P. Takis Metaxas (Wellesley College, USA) and Ran Libeskind-Hadas (Harvey Mudd College, USA), both of whom have substantial experience with organizing, funding, and mentoring undergraduate research programs.
Topics of the workshop include:
• Best practices for working with undergraduate research students including
selecting appropriate research problems, providing the right level of guidance, and setting ambitious but realistic expectations;
• Funding opportunities for supporting undergraduate research;
• Real success (and failure) stories and lessons learned;
• Helping students prepare for graduate school
The workshop will have multiple interactive components and will provide resources that have been used successfully at a variety of institutions. Join us for a fun session and a nice lunch. Please RSVP here by March 12.
