Eurythmy Spring Valley is delighted to offer two weeks of pedagogy for third and fourth year students of eurythmy and professional eurythmists in August 2019. The theme for both weeks of our 2019 Pedagogical Refresher series is the heart of childhood: the nine year change through 7th grade. We will look at the unfolding of thinking, feeling, and willing at these ages, physical development, and soul needs; and how to meet these stages of growth through eurythmy. Week One: Monday - Friday, August 12-16, 2019Cristina Geck, from the Shining Mountain Waldorf School, will be presenting the eurythmy curriculum, especially through the lens of the major festivals of the year. She will take up eurythmy for the festivals of Michaelmas, the Rites of Spring, the Maypole, and others for students in the heart of childhood, grades three to six. A vigorous, insightful, and joyful approach will be offered for teaching eurythmy to students, as they navigate the tender and formative heart of childhood. Week Two: Monday - Friday, August 19-23, 2019 John Holmes, from Kimberton Waldorf School, will present the middle of childhood, the nine and twelve-year thresholds, and how to understand children's movement in these stages of development. John articulates a clear picture of the developmental, therapeutic/hygienic reasons for the pedagogical approaches he presents, offering invaluable foundation for teaching at any stage. Themes for the week: What are the skills that need to be developed, which allow the middle school years to be a time of awakening and vigorous participation in eurythmy, and how do we do this? How do we understand students through the middle of childhood into the onset of puberty? Each course will provide a review of pedagogical forms and their relevance in this period of childhood, and themes from the curriculum, especially adaptable for use in eurythmy. Practicing teachers will have time to demonstrate and share materials and consider together the challenges of the 21st century child in eurythmy. We are holding these pedagogical courses for ESV students in training, but have found that it enriches the courses for everyone to have practicing teachers join the ongoing training as Refresher courses. So all are welcome! We have evening gatherings and will have more information on this later.
Cost is $460 per week or $800 for two weeks
