Every other Wednesday January 17, 2018 — June 9, 2018 5:30pm to 7:30pmBFI @ Yesler Terrace 221 10th Avenue South, Seattle
The Bureau of Fearless Ideas is pleased to invite high school students who are interested in developing and strengthening their voice through poetry and performance to join us for our Spoken Word Circle at BFI's new Yesler Terrace Field Office . Students will work with Geneva Taylor to find their writing and performance voice, write poetry that conveys messages important to them, and gain insight about how to select the proper pieces for the proper audiences. Students will have the opportunity to hear from local spoken word artists as well as share their work at a performance in June. Each student will also receive a published copy of a collection of the group’s work. All skill levels are welcome.
Led by: Geneva TaylorGeneva is a native Seattleite who currently works as a Program Manger working with children and families to help ensure access to quality tutoring and other programming. Geneva has been writing poetry for 19 years, since she was in middle school. In high school, she spread her wings and became a spoken word artist. She hopes that students who participate in the Spoken Word Circle will walk away "understanding and expressing themselves better." Her hope is that poetry moves students to "make positive change in their lives and communities."
