Direct Support Employment Application
Working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes with basic life skills. A person with a developmental disability is someone with one of the following diagnoses:
Intellectual Disability, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and/or Seizure Disorder
Supported living staff work with the individual in their home and provide instruction and assistance as needed so they may live their lives as independently and fully as possible. Some of the things that a supported living staff would assist with could include, but are not limited to:
Cleaning and Maintaining their Household, Budgeting and Money Management, Shopping, Accessing the Community, Hygiene and Grooming, Healthy Lifestyles and Eating Habits, and Behavior Management
The type of support provided is dependent on the specific needs and challenges of the individual receiving services. Working in this field can be a very rewarding experience where one has the opportunity to have a positive impact on people’s lives. This job provides valuable experience working with people with a variety of medical and psychological diagnoses and the ability to apply classroom instruction in the nursing, medical, and psychological fields to real life situations. In addition one has the opportunity to work with individuals and their families from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
