San Bernardino Mountains Climate-Informed Vegetation Management: Pre-workshop questionnaire
The following questions stem from information generated during the Regional Climate Conversation webinar (May, 2020). Results from the questionnaire are intended to inform the final vegetation management plan, and to help us structure working teams for a virtual workshop in late fall (exact dates TBD).

This questionnaire should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The following regional climate impacts were mentioned in the Regional Climate Conversation on May 28th, 2020. We’d like to know more about your personal experience with these:
What effects of climate change are most likely to have an impact on your on-the-ground work?
Already an impact
Likely to have a major impact
Likely to have a minor impact
Doesn't impact my work
Don't know
Increased average temperatures
Increased maximum temperatures (extreme heat)
Increased frequency and magnitude of drought
Increased duration of drought
More drought stress in vegetation
Shifts from snow to rain
Increase in wildfire activity
Shifts in habitat suitability for species
Please add any further comments on your responses above.
What ecosystems or species that you work with are particularly vulnerable to climate change?
The following are some of the general climate considerations that the group brought up during the Regional Climate Conversation webinar. To what extent do you already include these considerations in your work?
Pre-disturbance considerations / activities, including:
Doing a lot of this
Doing some of this
Doing this because of climate considerations
Doing this, but need to explicitly consider climate
Not currently doing this
Increasing forest structural diversity
Restoring fire regimes
Managing fuels to prevent large wildfires
Controlling invasive species
Other pre-disturbance activities / comments?
Post-disturbance considerations / activities, including:
Doing a lot of this
Doing some of this
Doing this because of climate considerations
Doing this, but need to explicitly consider climate
Not currently doing this
Encouraging natural regeneration following disturbance
Tree planting/reforestation following disturbance
Considering seed sources in reforestation
Considering future habitat suitability in reforestation
Preventing type conversion from chaparral to invasive grasslands
Other post-disturbance activities / comments?
Ecosystem services considerations / activities, including:
Doing a lot of this
Doing some of this
Doing this because of climate considerations
Doing this, but need to explicitly consider climate
Not currently doing this
Promoting a diversity of habitat types
Promoting wildlife habitat and sensitive species
Encouraging pioneer species (like ceonothus and manzanita)
Maintaining water quality and quantity (e.g. Mojave River)
Other ecosystem services activities / comments?
Do you have a specific place-based project you're working on that fits into one of these categories? Please describe this project below. We'd like to use these projects to explore and develop climate adaptation tactics in a virtual workshop. *
Required
Please offer a 1-2 sentence description of the project(s) you indicated above. If you don't have a project, please tell us which of the three categories you are most interested in.
