Gender-Just Language Education Professional Learning Online Network Space & OER Incubator

Are you a language educator (at any level K-16/primary, secondary, or post-secondary) who teaches a language other than English?

Do you have an interest in trans-affirming, gender-just language education?

Would you like to make professional connections with other language teachers and with trans and nonbinary people?

Would you like to create open educational resources (OERs) including trans and nonbinary ways of doing language?

I’m looking for teachers of languages other than English who would like to participate in a online professional community April 1-May 6 focused on deepening our understandings of gender-just language pedagogies and collaboratively creating open educational resources in the languages we teach, with support from researchers in trans applied linguistics and trans/nonbinary language experts. 

Teachers of any language other than English are welcome to submit an interest form (and doubly so if you teach a less commonly taught language and/or a language where limited materials on nonbinary languaging are currently available). 

There is no cost to participate and 20 educators who take part in the learning community, create 1 or more OER to share, and take an exit survey will receive $100. 

The estimated time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per week, 10-15 hours total. (Please indicate on your form if you have concerns about this level of commitment.)

We will both have a-synchronous discussions/activities for all participants and we will have several opportunities to meet synchronously in smaller, language-specific groups (as our schedules allow). 

A certificate of participation can be provided upon request. 


Please note: In order to participate you must be willing to grant the lead group facilitator (Kris) the right to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format so that these OERs can be freely shared with other teachers and learners. Attribution will always be given to you as (co)creators (unless you specifically request in writing not to be named on these materials). The facilitators of this group will be happy to support you in selecting and using a creative commons license (such as a CC-BY or CC-BY-SA license) for your work https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/cclicenses/

We have funding to pay 20 educators who take part in the learning community, create 1 or more OER to share, and take an exit survey $100, but we may be able to include more unfunded participants. Is your participation contingent on receiving $100?
