Knights of Columbus Council 8104 Scholarship Application (2024)
The Knights of Columbus have established a scholarship fund for students within our community in order to promote youth service and participation at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.  

Scholarship applications close on May 31, 2024.

This scholarship is open to two types of students;

1) Students attending a Catholic High School within the Diocese of St. Petersburg, or;
2) Students graduating high school and entering an accredited college, university, or trade school.

In order to qualify, you must meet the following prerequisites;

1) Is a child of a registered family at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
2) The applicant must be a baptized Roman Catholic and a practicing member of our faith community.
3) The applicant must meet one or more of the following requirements;
     a) Accepted into an accredited college, university, or trade school, or;
     b) Applying to an accredited college, university, or trade school and will be able to show proof of acceptance no later than June 25 of the year in which they are applying, or;
     c) Accepted into a Catholic High School in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.  
4) The applicant must have no criminal history or history of serious academic or behavioral violations.

All applicants must submit the following items, showing their meritorious achievements;

1) The applicant must submit proof of at least 100 hours of community service during their high school career.  The Scholarship Committee will consider all forms of verifiable acts of community service, including those acts of community service that are conducted beyond the confines of the parish community, in considering this requirement.
2) The applicant must submit proof of at least 25 hours of community service during their high school career that took place in a parish community or religious activity.  This is not in addition to the 100 hours requirement laid out in requirement 1.  The Scholarship Committee will consider any form of a verifiable act of community service that took place at, or in service of, a Catholic Church, Catholic school, or Catholic diocese in considering this requirement.  
3) The applicant may submit additional hours beyond the 100 hours minimum laid out in requirement 1 to show greater levels of involvement in their community.  Individuals who go above and beyond through their service in achieving more than 100 hours will receive additional consideration.
4) The applicant must submit proof of each instance of community service.  This proof must come in the form of each instance of community service must be accompanied by;
     a) A signed and/or official document detailing the instance of community service and the number of hours earned.
     b) Contact information for the director/leader of the organization where the instance of community service was conducted.
5) The applicant must include a short statement for each organization, group, or activity where they conducted community service discussing their service and its impact on their lives and the community in which they worked.  This should take the form of 1-2 paragraphs of 4 to 8 sentences for each instance.

All applicants must submit a personal statement;

The personal statement must be in response to the following prompt;
"The Knights of Columbus have four core principles that guide how they live their lives - Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.  Describe what these principles mean to you and how you exhibit them in your own life."

The personal statement may take any of the following forms;
1) An essay of between 400 and 600 words in length;
2) A recorded speech or presentation between 7 and 10 minutes in length, or;
3) A video or short film between 7 and 10 minutes in length.

All applicants must submit professional and/or academic references;

1) The applicant must submit a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of five (5) references from their professional or academic careers.

3) All references must be received by June 14, 2024.

All applicants may also provide the following information, if they wish, for additional consideration;

1) Statement of financial need
2) Records of academic achievement
3) Permission to conduct a live or virtual interview

Please note that these factors will ONLY be used if all previously listed factors are deemed equal by the Scholarship Committee.  All information will remain confidential and only be shared with the Scholarship Committee.  Members of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church who are not members of the Scholarship Committee will not be privy to the information submitted.
