Winterruption YEG Volunteer Application 2027

The 7th Winterruption YEG festival returns with a stacked line-up of music, drag, wrestling and comedy taking place in Edmonton January 20–24, 2027.

Started in 2019 in conjunction with Winterruption festivals in Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, and Calgary’s Big Winter Classic, Winterruption YEG works closely with the local business and the arts community of Edmonton. The mission of the festival is to provide an inclusive, diverse and representative showcase of music and comedy in a winter setting in downtown Edmonton. Every show will also be subject to a safe and inclusive space policy, and a number of events will be geared towards all ages and family communities, as well as 18+. Programming will be diverse and inclusive, in genre, gender, sexuality, age and culture.

General volunteers are asked to work a minimum of 2 shows in exchange for their all access festival pass, with one of those shows being on Friday or Saturday. Minors (14 - 17 yrs) are welcome to apply to volunteer, although we do have limited spaces available. The majority of our shows do take place in the evening, so volunteers must be available for at least 1 night show during the festival.

This year, Winterruption is growing, and we will be expanding our core Volunteer Leadership Team for the 2027 festival. If you love the festival vibe and want to get more involved in the behind-the-scenes operations, we are looking for amazing folks to step into several Coordinator Roles. These supervisory and lead positions will require a greater time commitment across all or most days of the festival, with opportunities including Ticketing Coordinator, Artists Coordinator, Assistant Volunteer Manager, and Zone Leaders (who will oversee operations at 1 to 3 venues for the entire weekend).

Festival Roles & Opportunities

We have two main ways to get involved at Winterruption 2027 based on your availability and interest:

General Volunteers: Work a minimum of 2 shifts (at least 1 on Friday or Saturday, and 1 evening shift) in exchange for an All-Access Pass.

Volunteer Leadership Team: Core supervisory roles requiring commitment across all or most days of the festival (Jan 20–24, 2027), along with some pre-festival prep.

Winterruption has shows from Wed Jan 20 - Sun Jan 24.  Are there any days during that time that you know you will NOT be available? (Don't worry, we'll ask more about availability closer to the Fest, but knowing now is helpful) Please note, the majority of our shows occur on Friday and Saturday night. If you are not available either of those nights we may not be able to accept your volunteer application.
