The GCLS Writing Academy is a nine-month writing-intensive program that begins each September where students participate in a series of online classes, instructor-led discussions, and forums in collaboration with other students.

FIRST THE MENTORS:

In January, students are given a questionnaire. One of the questions is, "List 3-4 of your dream mentors." Oftentimes, we already have at least one of those mentors on our list. Other times we do not. It is our hope to increase the names on the list of potential mentors to better fulfil the dreams of the new writers in our community.

 In January, we begin communicating with mentors and mentees to establish potential connections. 

From April to June, each student is paired with a mentor, someone who will commit to reading some of their work and give feedback through written and verbal means. 

NOW ABOUT THOSE INSTRUCTORS:

We offer approximately 30 classes per year for Writing Academy 1 and another 30 classes per year for writing academy 2. These courses are held on Saturdays and run either 60 or 90 minutes. 

Each class is given by an established author. 

What is your favorite thing to discuss? Writing sex scenes? Experimenting with POV? Character diversity? Marketing? Branding? Creating a synopsis? Independent Publishing? The art of the short story? Pitch us something else. Our students gobble this stuff up!
