High School Intern Job Description and Goals
Position Summary

The 180 Student Ministry intern position will be a chance for an individual to learn about Student Ministries with hands on experience. High School interns do not necessarily need to feel called to vocational ministry, but will be gaining skill training in a ministry setting. Through this internship the individual will assist the Student Pastor and be challenged to grow in their Spiritual goals, personal goals, as well as their professional goals through the entire process as they participate in this learning experience with the Student Ministry department at Ephesus Baptist Church.


The Intern will work directly with the Student Pastor in planning, setting up, participating in, and in some cases leading some activities in the Student Ministry.

Intern may be asked to help in making contacts with students who have visited recently in attempts to make them feel welcome and encourage them to get plugged in to Wednesday night worship and a LifeGroup.

Intern will need to be a model student at school as well as on any and all student ministry events, trips, and activities.

Intern will help out with other general responsibilities, such as: activity and event preparation, participation in “on-stage” activities, correspondences, phone contacts, and other methods of follow up with students.

Intern will be assisting in a number of other activities in regards to everyday activities within the ministry. This may include organizing, cleaning, and preparing student ministry areas for use.

Intern will take part in creating at least 1 event or project that they are responsible for planning and then presenting to the student pastor.

Intern will be asked to handle appropriate administrative responsibilities as needed.

The intern and student pastor will agree on what events and activities, in addition to office experience, the intern will participate in as part of his or her internship education experience. These additional events and activities can be attended without any expense to the intern.

Normal hours available for interns is 1:30-4:30pm Monday - Thursday, and also Wednesday nights 4:30-7:30pm. Hours can be adjusted or made up as long as they are approved ahead of time. There are also hours available for Sunday mornings.

Our goal is for the intern to meet the requirements on the attached ministry experiences checklist and have completed all the items listed during the duration of the internship.

High School Intern Experience Checklist

For Wednesday Nights
o Learn to use all technology and social media devices in the youth department.
o Learn how to set up equipment for Wednesday night youth worship.
o Set a good example for other students in worship and attention given to message.
o Choose and lead a game for the middle school service
o Intern may be asked to lead opening prayer for services and/or make some announcements
o Help locate videos and illustrations to use during worship service

o Show ability to handle conflict
o Show ability to make changes or improvements
o Show ability to work under someone’s authority
o Show ability to be a leader within the youth group
o Be able to identify your strengths in a ministry setting

o Create an event flyer and take steps to produce it
o Learn how to work within a budget
o Learn to delegate certain responsibilities
o Learn to use computer programs such as excel, word, powerpoint, google drive, pages, pro presenter, and iMovie.

Spiritual Formation
o Effectively communicate how God is working in your life.
o Spend personal time in prayer and studying God’s word.
o Attend church weekly
o Learn to incorporate your relationship with God in to all of your relationships with others. (Family, future spouse, friendships, etc.)
