What is the waiting period for volunteers who are new to the church?
What is the protocol if you are accompanying a child to the restroom and the child needs help?
It's okay if they need help; just do it quickly.
Help the child as needed but prop the door to the bathroom open and do not close the stall door.
They have to learn sometime and will just have to fend for themselves.
Is it okay to let a child you are supervising sit on your lap?
Yes, if age 4 or under and you are clearly visible to your supervising partner and/or other adults.
No, it could be too easily misconstrued.
Yes, as long as others can see me, the age of the child doesn't matter.
Who can pick up a child from the nursery or a classroom? (check all that apply)
A known parent.
An adult I recognize.
An adult the child recognizes.
A family member or friend who is on record as having permission from the parent(s).
Certain children can go to another classroom on their own or somewhere nearby as along as I know at least one parent is there.
What is the appropriate action if you observe an inappropriate situation or have concerns about someone's interactions with a child?
I would discuss it with my spouse or with another volunteer to see what they think.
I don't want to cause unnecessary conflict so I would wait until I saw a problem on more than one occasion.
I would discuss it promptly with the children's ministry director, a pastor or APART leader.
