Good decisions are made in spite of fear. Maybe what you have to decide on is not fun. Acknowledge that and that you would rather not be in this situation… and move on
It's okay to be passively active. Waiting to decide is still a decision
Take time equal to the size of the decision: a big decision takes longer; a short decision should not take long at all
Set a self-imposed calendar deadline if one doesn't naturally occur
Get options… and more options. The with the most information makes the best decisions. None are likely perfect. Comparing the options gives us objective decisions
Clearly state (or review) your values. This helps make decisions that align with them
Break the decision into smaller bites
Determine the financial implications of the decision. Ignore sunk costs. They are exactly that – sunk. They should have no impact on the decision you need to make
Ask real experts – that have the heart of the teacher
Seek the counsel of your spouse – this is very wise.
Write yourself a report as if helping someone else make the decision. This works.
