Ridgeline urges families to plan vacations and travel to coincide with scheduled school breaks. Nationwide and schoolwide data show that a lengthy planned absence frequently leads to a student being chronically absent over the course of the year. Please fill out the form below at least two days in advance (longer is preferable). If your student has a 90% attendance rate or higher, up to five days per semester, may be excused. Students with a lower than 90% attendance rate will not qualify for excused planned absence days. You will receive an email from attendance indicating whether your planned absence request is approved within 5 working days. Planned absent forms not filled out at least 48 hours before the trip will result in unexcused absences.
While there are obvious benefits to travel, research consistently shows that chronic absenteeism hurts students academically and socially, and adversely impacts classroom communities. Parents are required to contact the school principal well in advance of any planned absence. The school is required to withdraw a student after any absence lasting 10 consecutive school days or more.
Fill out the form below to submit your planned absence to the principal for review.
