Health Check for Voluntary and Community Organisations

    Introduction

There are lots of reasons why people form and join voluntary groups; a chance to meet people who have had similar experiences and can offer support, advice, and friendship; maybe there are developments in a neighbourhood that residents feel strongly about; or maybe you just have a good idea that needs more people to make it happen. We know that running a voluntary organisation can be challenging. Part of our role is to help local committee members improve the effectiveness of their organisations by providing advice, support and guidance. By adopting good practice, voluntary organisations can become more effective where it really counts - providing the best possible service to the people they were set up to benefit. Crawley Community & Voluntary Service has developed the ‘Health Check’ - a step by step guide to encourage good practice and help your organisation develop systems and procedures to run your organisation effectively. We recommend that the health check is completed by several, if not all, the members of the committee. It may be helpful to have a copy of your constitution to hand (if you have one).
