CECAS SPARK Challenge
Below is a description and application for the CECAS Spark challenge. Please fill out the information to the best of your ability. We understand that people will be in various stages of development with their ideas.
THE CECAS SPARK CHALLENGE
The CECAS SPARK Challenge is a two-semester program and pitch competition that seeks to support students and their ideas in the areas of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. CECAS-majority teams of students can apply to receive up to $500 in development funds that will cover the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. As part of the program, they receive mentorship and support from representatives of the campus I&E ecosystem, and attend required workshops by DEN, SPIRO and WATT. Student-teams will select a discipline-specific faculty/staff mentor to assist them with spending of prototyping funds. Following the development of their ideas, student-teams will pitch their innovations in late February 2019 to a panel of esteemed judges, for a chance to win cash prizes and a free trip to California over Spring Break, to meet successful entrepreneurs and alumni.
REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Only one student from each team need apply. Students can be added to a team later.
Undergraduates and graduate students are welcome to apply.
Your team must be 50% or more CECAS students to be eligible.
The team must seek a faculty/staff adviser to receive funding for their work (none are required to initially apply).
There will be workshops and events to support your team. These will be required attendance for participants.
REQUIREMENTS FOR FACULTY/STAFF MENTORS:
A CECAS faculty/staff mentor will be needed by each team, and will oversee student team spending. Mentors will receive $150 in professional development funds.
Your idea must be student-initiated and directed.
It cannot have been initiated, developed or supported (past or present) by Faculty grant funding.
Your idea does not have to be STEM (techy) related. Any marketable idea will be considered.
Protection of intellectual property generated by the student teams is the responsibility of the student, and advisers of the program will work with the students on best practices of disclosure and confidentiality. Applications for this program will remain confidential, and will not constitute a disclosure.
