If your child is entering into grade 4 or grade 5 in September 2026, he/she is eligible to play an instrument as part of the band or orchestra programs!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In the upcoming 26-27 school year, your child, as an entering grade 4 or grade 5 student, will have the opportunity to play a musical instrument and participate in either the orchestra or band programs. This letter will explain the important details of the instrumental music program at Clark Mills School.

Instrumental music lessons are offered to all 4th and 5th grade students for the 26-27 school year. Parents/Guardians will need to obtain an instrument and lesson book for their child. In September, Mr. Lucchi and Mrs. Silipino will send out more information regarding the lesson book that needs to be purchased.

Students will have a band or orchestra lesson once every six days. In addition, students will have band with Mrs. Silipino once a month before school beginning at 7:30 AM. Students in Mr. Lucchi's orchestra will have rehearsal after school once a month until 3:15 PM. The Beyond the School Day rehearsals will begin in October for Grade 5 students and in the spring for Grade 4 students. The students will also have band/orchestra rehearsals approximately two times a month during their WIN period. A schedule of these monthly beyond the school day sessions will be provided in late September.

The Winter Concert (only for 5th graders) is scheduled for Thursday, December 10th.
The Spring Concert (4th and 5th grade) is scheduled for Thursday, May 20th. 
Both of these concerts are mandatory commitments for students in the instrumental music program. 

Lessons are offered for the following instruments:

Mr. Lucchi's orchestra: Violin, Viola, Cello

Mrs. Silipino's Band: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion (Drums)

Please Note: Only 5 beginner band students will be able to play the drums. The first 5 people to sign up for drums will be accepted. Everyone else will be offered their second choice of instrument.

It is the parent's responsibility to pay for the cost of an instrumental rental, if needed.  This can be done online through the district's approved vendors, NEMC (www.nemc.com) or Music & Arts (www.musicarts.com) beginning in September, or you can arrange an instrument rental on your own through various privately owned music stores in the area.  More information on how to rent an instrument will be distributed in September. Lessons will occur on a 6-day cycle and will begin as soon as the schedule has been developed.  Students and parents/guardians will be notified of the scheduled lesson day/time before the first scheduled lesson.

A limited supply of "loaner" instruments owned by the school will continue to be made available on a "first come, first serve" basis to students who receive the accommodation of free/reduced lunch, although not all students can be guaranteed a "loaner" instrument nor can they necessarily be given the instrument of their choice.
