All day events include: fundraising used book sale for Argenteuil District Girl Guides (over 2000 books for sale), Girl Guides Cookie sale, and Art Exhibit: Extinction Protest Series by Benjamin Lachapelle.
9:00 - 9:50 AM - Painting & Wellness with Carol Lyng (Sponsored by Autism & Arts in the Laurentians)
The benefits of artistic expression are well documented. From improved mental health, communication and social engagement, art is a transformative tool which can enhance one’s overall well-being. Explore the therapeutic benefits of painting with Laurentian artist Carol Lyng in this 50 min workshop entitled: Fall - Under an Oak Tree. Participants MUST arrive by 8:50 AM. Carol Lyng found her passion for art at a very young age. Pulling inspiration from nature's beauty, she is an accomplished designer, painter, stained glass artisan and so much more. After 30 years as a successful graphic designer, Carol is now fulfilling a life long dream of facilitating a wide array of creative workshops for all ages. These workshops promote a relaxing atmosphere where Carol guides participants to discover creative talent within themselves that they did not know was there. Carol is a regular contributing artist for AAL. ADULT AUDIENCE

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Autism/Asperger & Healthy Sexuality with Dr. Isabelle Henault (Sponsored by AAL)
Recent years have seen rapid development of interventions for ASD & AS. However, there are very few programs that address interpersonal relationships and sexuality. This presentation will elaborate on strategies to improve the social and sexual education of adolescents with ASD. Adapted sex education material will be presented, such as case illustrations and examples. Dr. Isabelle Hénault, is a psychologist from the University of Québec at Montréal, Canada and director of the Autism & Asperger Clinic of Montreal. Dr. Hénault is a leading figure in the field of adolescence with ASD-AS and has developed a Relationship and Sex Education Program. She is presently collaborating on numerous international research initiatives involving socio-sexual education and interpersonal relationships. ADULT AUDIENCE.

Numerous studies have shown drumming to have many positive effects on one’s health by reducing stress, fatigue and anxiety, and improving social resilience. Drum circles allow participants to get in tune with themselves and others, bringing communities together. Experience a 25 min drum circle with professional facilitator William Laurin (Soundvibe Circles). Adult and child audience.William Laurin has been an active touring drummer and educator for over 15 years. He readily instructs clients, performs for audiences in many countries and facilitates empowering drum circles. William is currently performing with the JW-Jones Band and his original project called Rude Mood. William is a regular contributing artist for AAL. ADULT and CHILD AUDIENCE

1:30 - 3:30 PM - Emotional Regulation & Tuning Into Adolescents: What Parents and Educators Can Do & Say! Presented by Linda Aber (Sponsored by the Laurentian Literacy Center)
Adolescence is akin to an “out of body experience” – out of a child’s body into that of an emerging adult. The teenage years, as emerging adults strive for independence, are jam-packed with joys and challenges. During adolescence, kids need their parents more than ever. We will explore: the adolescent’s developing brain, how to shift reactive to receptive states of mind, the importance of emotional self-regulation & co-regulation, how to connect plus ignite self-esteem with the nurturing language of “positivity” , HeartMath® Anxiety Reduction & other tools to reduce anxiety & anger. Linda Aber is a certified Theraplay® Group Specialist, HeartMath® Anxiety/Anger Reduction Practitioner, Attachment Parent Coach, Family Life Educator, nurse and adoptive parent.

1:30 - 3:30 PM - Relationship-Based Approaches for Children with Autism - Presented by Katie Cohene & Jade Lawsane, ASD Center of Excellence (Sponsored by AAL)
Learn how relationship-based approaches can make a difference and improve outcomes. Contrary to a number of current ASD interventions which focus on compliance, obedience and conformity, this workshop emphasizes the importance of taking time to first understand and validate the unique perspective of children with ASD and their families. The benefits of relationship-based approaches will be explored. Adult audience. Dr. Katie Cohene holds a doctorate in Educational Psychology and has worked as both a teacher and then a Consultant for over 15 years. Jade Lawsane is a licensed psychoeducator who has been working in the field of autism and developmental disability for two decades. Both are Consultants for Autism for the Centre of Excellence in Autism Spectrum Disorder housed at the Lester B. Pearson School Board. ADULT AUDIENCE

For parents and children of all ages. Participants gain an understanding of the physical, mental and emotional characteristics of stress and how to relate to it individually or as a family. Mindfulness practices, breathing exercises, movement-based meditations will be explored and experienced in this workshop. ADULT AND CHILD AUDIENCE
