Powerboat Courses - Feb 2018
We plan to run a number of powerboat courses in February 2018, as follows:

1. CSC Powerboat / Safety course - 2 day course, Sat 17 Feb & Sat 24 Feb
This course is designed to help club members gain familiarity with the Commando power boats used for patrol and safety duties. The course includes boat handling, recovery techniques and righting capsized boats correctly. This is an important course for members who undertake club patrol boat duties. The Chipstead Powerboat Course is free to members who undertake to do duties as powerboat helms. The minimum age limit is 18 years.

2. RYA Powerboat Level 2 course - 2 day course, Sat 17 Feb & Sat 24 Feb
This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course certificate, upon successful completion, will be endorsed for inland use only. The minimum age is 18 years. The cost of the course is £100 for members and £210 for non-members (including a £60 temporary membership).

3. RYA Safety Boat course - 2 day course, Sun 18 Feb & Sun 25 Feb
This course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is highly recommended for Dinghy Instructors who have not had training in safety boat skills. The course certificate, upon successful completion, will be endorsed for inland use only. The minimum age is 18 years (or 16 years if already a Dinghy Instructor). The cost of the course is £25 for Dinghy Instructors volunteering at the Training Centre, £100 for members, and £210 for non-members (including a £60 temporary membership).

For club members looking to learn or improve powerboat helming skills solely for club duties, the CSC Powerboat / Safety course is recommended and has the advantage of being free.

The two RYA courses, when completed, have an internationally recognised certificate. They are mainly intended for members planning to take a Dinghy Instructor course, or who have qualified as Dinghy Instructors, but they are also open to all members who are interested.

This form is an expression of interest. After completion, you will emailed a booking form to complete before being confirmed on any of these courses.

Courses will only be run if there is sufficient interest. Dates may be altered dependent on number of participants and instructor availability. Participation is at the discretion of the course organisers.
