The Educators of Maine Support the Pine Tree Amendment
LD 489 Language: The people of the State have the right to a clean and healthy environment and to the preservation of the natural, cultural and healthful qualities of the environment. The State may not infringe upon these rights. The State shall conserve, protect and maintain the State’s natural resources, including, but not limited to, its air, water, land and ecosystems for the benefit of all the people, including generations yet to come.
Dear Representatives of the Maine State Legislature,
We urge you to vote in favor of the Pine Tree Amendment. As educators working with children and young people, we are all too keenly aware of the need to protect Maine’s natural resources and environment to ensure that they have access to the clean air, clean water, and healthy ecosystems they need to thrive.
Our students are so bright and hardworking and have such potential. They are full of hopes and dreams. We want to ensure that our students are able to live out happy lives here in Maine, whether they are relying on Maine’s natural resources for their livelihoods or enjoying the natural wonders Maine offers. The Pine Tree Amendment will give all people in Maine a constitutionally protected right to a healthy environment.
As educators in the State of Maine, we urge you to vote yes on the Pine Tree Amendment for the well-being of our students, and of the children they may one day bring into this changing world.
